FEMA Flood Maps
Jan. 19, 2011
FEMA is in the process of updating the Flood Insurance Rate Maps which show flood plains
throughout East Baton Rouge Parish. An interactive map can help you determine if your property is within
a flood plain. Simply go to www.RiskMap6.com, and select East Baton Rouge Parish.
You will be taken to an interactive map where you can enter your physical address on the left side,
then choose “Flood Hazard Areas” from the Map Layers section on the left side. The map will then shade
in the appropriate flood hazards on the map, which you can reference on the legend on the right side. Flood
Zone “X” means your property is relatively out of a flood zone, while flood zones A, AE, AO, AH, and
A99 mean that you are within a flood zone.
You can also search by FIRM PANEL # for a broader view of the city. The Firm Panel #’s within
Central are those ending in the following suffixes: C0180E, C0185F, C0205E, C0190E, C0195F, C0215E,
and C0280E.
While the floodplain data that is shown on the interactive map is the same, this map is not an
official FEMA Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map (DFIRM). This Interactive Mapping Tool is not intended
for insurance rating purposes and is for information only. The positional accuracy may be compromised in
some areas. The map is not 100% accurate in locating your address. Please contact our local floodplain
administrator, Kathi Cowen, at 262-5011 for more information or to view an official copy of the Flood
Insurance Rate Maps at our Municipal Service Center located at the corner of Hooper Rd & Greenwell
Springs Rd next to the U.S. Post Office. |
