Effective Jan. 1, 2009, all new mailboxes placed along rural routes within the City of Central must adhere to the following regulations implemented by the U.S. Postal Service:
- All mailboxes along a street or highway must be placed on one side of the street only.
- All mailboxes must be placed on or adjacent to the property line between residences in groups of no more than 4 mailboxes. Mailboxes will not be allowed to be placed directly in front of residences.
- Proper addresses must be displayed on each mailbox with numbers no less than 3 inches in height.
Additionally, no mailboxes will be allowed to have permanent brick or concrete columns. All mailboxes shall be installed with a type of impact break-away supports.
