April Autism Awareness Month, City Council names Bruce Simmons ‘2016 Law Enforcement Citizen of the

Mayor Jr. Shelton declared April 2017 ‘Autism Awareness Month’ at the City Council meeting Tuesday night. Debbie Doughtery, founder of the non-profit Central Community Autism Awareness, announced a partnership with NHS to build a new school for special needs children in Central.

NHS is a ‘community based, non-profit education' organization serving those on the autism spectrum and those with special needs and just recently opened a new NHS Autism Center in Baton Rouge.

The council passed two ordinances to amend the 2016-2017 Fiscal year Budget: the first, to appropriate funds for the receipt of a donation and expenditures for the Christmas event, and the second, to appropriate funds for uniforms and repairs & maintenance and to account for a reduction in small equipment for the Police Department.

The council also passed a resolution to authorize the Mayor of the City of Central to advertise a Request For Qualifications “RFQ” for professional engineering services and related consulting services for the City of Central Drainage System Maintenance Plan.
