Mayor Shelton encourages CHS students to "think big" for community showcase civics project

CHS students received a civics assignment on Thursday morning to create a business or community center for their community. Mayor Shelton told CHS students to really consider what they think Central needs because their projects could become a reality.

Last year, projects included a study/hang out center for young people, an amusement park and a children's museum. Since then, Economic Development Director Amanda Moody has engaged with local government and the Central City Council to transform a building on Hooper Road into a children's museum.

After the August flood, the city used the aforementioned building as a donation center for flood victims to get needed items. A children's museum remains the ultimate goal for the building.

Amanda Moody also encouraged the students to think their hopes for the future of Central because their ideas will shape the city as it grows.
