As Tropical Storm Francine approaches, the City of Central has been taking proactive steps to prepare. Our crews have been working diligently to clear obstructions at major culvert crossings, as well as our routine trouble spots. Both our debris removal and debris monitoring contractors have been placed on notice and are ready to respond if necessary.
We will receive an update tomorrow morning from the National Weather Service, which will provide us with more accurate information. Currently, the forecast indicates we should expect a similar amount of rainfall to what we experienced last week. Thanks to our ongoing drainage improvements, we’ve been able to address localized flooding issues. Today, City of Central crews focused on state and parish routes in the Beaver Bayou and Draughn Creek watersheds, with additional checks performed along Shoe Creek to ensure consistent water flow.
For those who may need sandbags, sand and bags are available at the Old Lovett Road Ballpark. Please remember to bring a shovel if you need sand. Additionally, we encourage residents to check on neighbors who may not be able to gather sandbags themselves and offer assistance if needed.
The City of Central’s robust flood forecasting system, which includes gauges throughout the city, is fully operational and will help us monitor all areas. If we detect any concerns, we will alert the public immediately. At this time, we do not anticipate the need to open a shelter, but we will continue to monitor conditions closely.
We ask all residents to remain vigilant and secure any items that could be carried into our waterways, as blocked culverts can worsen flooding.
Stay safe, and we will provide further updates as the situation develops.
