Please see the below weather update and attached slides from the National Weather Service (NWS) New Orleans / Baton Rouge regarding Tropical Storm Bertha.
- Tropical Storm Bertha is moving slowly northwestward and is forecast to turn more westward by late today. It currently has maximum winds of 50 mph and is expected to remain a tropical storm as it moves through coastal southeastern Louisiana tonight and Wednesday.
- Bertha is forecasted to continue to drift/meander northwest through today before finally turning more to the west as high pressure builds north of it.
- Currently, the NWS is forecasting that the storm will not have any significant impacts to our area and the greatest impacts will be across immediate coastal areas.
- The storm is forecast to be very lopsided with most of the rain/strong winds/etc on the southern side of the storm. This should keep the greatest impact across the Gulf, but will also mean that if the storm tracks farther north, some of the more impactful weather will move onshore.
- Despite Bertha, our area will be under a Heat Advisory today from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM with heat indices up to 112 degrees.
