Mayor here: Please prepare your homes and businesses for a winter weather event. While it is still too far out to nail down exact details, the city is prepared. We have salt for all of our local bridges, which will likely be applied on Monday during the evening hours. We have three spreaders that will be treating all local bridges. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) will be applying salt to the Comite River bridges on Hooper, Joor, and Greenwell Springs Road. Please only venture out in snowy or icy conditions if you absolutely must. Remember, some people struggle to drive even when it is dry and sunny, so be patient! Our first responders are skilled drivers, and we want them to arrive safely at emergencies. For those of you with newer vehicles, this is a great opportunity to use the ice/snow setting. It might be a chance to check that off your bucket list. (❗️ 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐫: 𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞. 𝐈 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮❜𝐫𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭, 𝐡𝐚𝐡𝐚. ) If it does snow, snowmen can be built by rolling a small snowball on the ground until it gets bigger. The snowballs can get heavy, so keep in mind that if you want your snowman to stand up, you will need to lift the larger balls of snow on top of the base. One option is to create "lying down" snowmen. ⛄️ We encourage you to enjoy this moment with your families. I hope you have a great time; the city and our amazing public works staff are ready to respond. Take pictures and make memories. Enjoy your weekend!

🎉📚 A Message from the City of Central’s Mayor’s Office 📚🎉 We wish you a fantastic day back to school, students! As we kick off the new year and students head back to school after the Christmas/Winter break, let’s all remember to stay safe on the roads. 🚸🚙 Parents and caregivers, please be mindful of school zones (NO phones allowed and speed matters!), and remind your students to look both ways before crossing. Drivers, let’s keep our eyes peeled for school buses and pedestrians—our kids’ safety is in our hands! 🚌❤️ And don’t forget your carpool rules and manners! 😜 Simple acts of kindness can make a big difference during drop-off and pick-up times. (This applies to all areas of driving and not just in the carpool line.) 🌟✏️ #BackToSchool #SafetyFirst #NewYearNewGoals #CityOfCentral
