In honor of the holiday, all City offices will be closed today, July 4th.

A NOTE FROM THE MAYOR:
This morning, I attended a meeting with representatives from the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) and the road contractor to discuss the Wax Road project. Although the conversation was spirited, all parties acknowledged that the project timeline must be respected and that additional delays should be avoided. To facilitate the project's progression, the parties involved recognized the necessity of being more flexible regarding time and method, as well as traffic flow and detour routes. It is anticipated that within the next seven days, detour signage and routes will be implemented to divert through traffic. The contractor will modify the material flip method to work in shorter segments, allowing for more frequent traffic flow. The shutdowns required for flipping the material into the traffic lane will be limited to 15 minutes, with the goal of completing the process in three closures. Once the sub-base work is complete, the closure will be slightly longer to flip the material back. It is hoped that the detours and updated flagging method will eliminate unnecessary tractor-trailer traffic. For clarification, if you need to access a specific location on the road, it is not considered through traffic. The working hours may be adjusted, as morning traffic is significantly lighter. I emphasized to the team the importance of mitigating the project's impact, and they are committed to doing everything possible to ease the inconvenience. Unfortunately, an altercation occurred on Monday, where a flagger was verbally assaulted while performing their duties. This behavior is unacceptable. It is essential to manage our emotions and maintain a sense of grace, even in frustrating situations. I am aware of the upcoming school activities and the desire for unimpeded travel. However, it is essential to understand that unrestricted travel is not currently possible. The best approach is to avoid using Wax Road unless absolutely necessary. Due to contractual requirements, the contractor must submit a formal request, which is why only minor work will be visible tomorrow and possibly Thursday. While I appreciate feedback on the project, I must reiterate that I am not in charge, and the project parameters are not subject to change. Night work is not a viable option. I suggest placing a reminder note on your dashboard to ensure awareness of the ongoing construction. Please be assured that this project will be completed, and normal traffic flow will resume.

"While we are flushing you may possibly experience lower pressure than normal and could have a tint in the water. If you use any water in your home during the posted flush times you may draw this water into your plumbing system. Toilets and hot water heaters have tanks that can keep this water around long after we are done. If you continue to have discoloration or cloudy water after the posted flush has ended, please let the cold water tap in your kitchen run for approximately 3-5 minutes. If the cold water in the kitchen is clear and the hot water and toilets still have a tint, they may require a brief flush. If any of these issues continue after the posted flush times, please call us at 225-925-2011."

🚧✨ While Wax Road may be full of cones and delays, Mayor Wade Evans, his PIO Jenn Kimble, and friend Chelsey Roy were out today spreading something better than traffic updates—a little Jesus! 🙌
As folks sat in line during construction, they were greeted with a smile and handed a Pocket Jesus—just a small reminder that you’re never alone, even in the middle of a work zone.
Because let’s be honest… we could all use a little Jesus (especially in traffic). ❤️

We are just shy of heat advisory criteria for today, but it'll still be very hot Wednesday! Heat index values are forecasted to be as high as 107. Make sure to take heat safety precautions: drink plenty of water, take breaks in the shade/AC, and know the signs of heat illness!
